China-Pakistan S&T Enterprise Cooperation Seminar promotes high-quality development
On May 9, the China-Pakistan Science and Technology Enterprise Cooperation Seminar was held in Beijing. The event was themed on “boosting cooperation between Chinese and Pakistani enterprises and helping Chinese-funded technology enterprises develop in Pakistan” and co-sponsored by the Zhongguancun Belt and Road Industrial Promotion Association and the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Beijing.

Lu Yiming, the representative from the International Cooperation Division of Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and Administrative Commission of Zhongguancun Science Park, provided an overview of the Park and the development that it has experienced. He explained that it was China’s first national-level high-tech industrial development zone, national-level independent innovation demonstration zone, and national-level special talent zone and that it has played an important role in incubating, promoting, developing, and nurturing science and technology enterprises. Lu also mentioned that a unique development configuration has taken shape as advantageous industrial clusters involving areas such as next-generation internet, mobile internet, new generation mobile communications, satellite applications, health and biology, energy conservation and environmental protection, and rail transit and budding industrial clusters involving areas such as integrated circuits, new materials, high-end equipment and general aviation, new energy and new-energy vehicles, and high-end modern service industries emerged in the course of nearly 20,000 high-tech enterprises launching or establishing a presence at “the hub with multiple parks” over the last 20-plus years.
Zhang Xiaodong, chairman of the Zhongguancun Belt and Road Industrial Promotion Association, provided a summary of the China-Pakistan Science and Technology Cooperation Center and the work that it has been engaged in. He stated that the center is tasked with helping bridge youth innovation and entrepreneurship in China and Pakistan, promoting science and technology collaboration between the two countries, building a technological cooperation platform, providing scientific and technological support for China-Pakistan production capacity partnership, and strengthening the foundation for China-Pakistan scientific and technological exchanges. Zhang elaborated that the technological cooperation platform will help facilitate the formulation of collaborative plans for China-Pakistan science and technology enterprises; meet demands associated with the development of artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, financial technology, biotechnology, agriculture, and other fields; attract innovative elements and financial resources; and enable Chinese technology enterprises develop in Pakistan under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor cooperation framework.

Khan Muhammad, Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Beijing counselor of science and technology, noted that there is great potential for scientific and technological cooperation between China and Pakistan, with broad prospects existing in areas such as talent exchange, new materials, artificial intelligence, big data, biotechnology, machinery, medicine, agriculture and academia. He indicated that he hopes a platform for promoting China-Pakistan cooperation will take shape, extensive communication will occur, and that the two sides will jointly promote bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
